What this method prevents
The first plausible answer becomes the organising assumption for all later research and analysis.
Illustrative example
Before recommending a software purchase, compare procurement, limited pilot, internal build, process redesign and deferral under the same criteria.
How it works
A controlled sequence
- Classify the reasoning task.
- Generate credible alternative hypotheses or options.
- State what evidence would favour each path.
- Identify discriminating tests.
- Compare alternatives at the same unit and standard.
- Converge only after the alternatives have been challenged.
Reliance note
The method supports governance; it does not self-authorise a decision.
Application must be proportionate to the task, evidence and consequence level. The output should state what has been registered, what remains uncertain and which authorised human or organisation controls release.
